Old McBrayer Whiskey Bottle Prohibition Era Medicinal Spirits
c. 1916, USA
Old McBrayer whiskey, a brand that was particularly prominent during the prohibition era as medicinal spirits. It is labeled as "Bottled in Bond", meaning it was produced under federal supervision, bottled at 100 proof, and aged for a minimum of four years. The bottle features a distinctively embossed, diamond-patterned glass design and is marked as a "Full Quart". Similar antique bottles have been valued by collectors between $2,000 and $6,000. The tax stamp is in good condition, and paid before Mar. 1st 1934.This exact style of diamond-embossed Old McBrayer Whiskey quart bottle was distilled in 1917. Because it was produced just before the onset of Wartime Prohibition and the 18th Amendment, the liquid was locked away in federally bonded warehouses. It was later consolidated by the American Medicinal Spirits Company (AMS), which held one of the few government permits to bottle and distribute remaining whiskey stocks for "medicinal purposes" during Prohibition. Written on the label "Made Spring 1916"
