Of Historical importance and Olympic games interest, the lot to include The Order of the Bath Knight Grand Cross Sash Badge together with six named sporting medals, the group relating to Thomas Milvain, to include four silver medals with glazed obvserse and reverse, named to the rim and dated from 1863 to 1868, to inlcude Hurldes and boxing, Thomas Milvain was the first winner of what is now the Oylmpic sport of 120 Yards Hurdle race (changed in 1969 to 110 Yards) winning the race against Louis Tiffany of the USA who came in second, one of the two silver gilt medals in the lot is his winning medal detailing to the reverse Amatar Athletic Club, Time 16 Seconds 3/4 won by T. Milvain Trinity Hall Cambridge, Thomas Milvain was the son of Henry Milvain of North Elswick Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne and his wife Jane Davidson, and was educated at Durham Grammar School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he graduated LL.B. in 1866 and LL.M. in 1872. He was called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1869, and practiced on the North-Eastern Circuit. He took silk in 1888, became an MP in 1885 for Hampstead and after losing his parliament seat in 1892 was appointed Recorder of Bradford and Chancellor of the County Palatine of Durham.
