NK Signed Engraved Gold Inlaid Winchester Model 42 Pigeon Grade Slide Action Shotgun Manufactured in 1937 and subsequently custom embellished/upgraded. The sides of the receiver feature game scenes of two gold inlaid hunting dogs and two gold inlaid quail in a wooded scene on the left side and a gold inlaid hunting dog and two gold inlaid grouse in a wooded scene on the right side. Both scenes are bordered but floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background. The lower left side of the receiver is signed "NK". Writer assumes the initials are those of Winchester engraver Nick Kismet. There is a 1 1/2 inch wedge of floral scroll engraving on each side of the barrel at the breech and a small amount on the takedown ring and trigger guard. The left rear of the barrel is marked "-WINCHESTER/PROOF STEEL-MODEL 42-/WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-/.410- 3IN.-" and "FULL" at the breech. The Winchester oval proof is marked on the upper left side of the barrel at the breech. Matching serial numbers and a pigeon engraved on the bottom of the magazine tube. Single steel bead sight on the solid matte rib, 3 inch chamber and choked full. Jeweled bolt and follower, and mounted with diamond pattern checkered nicely figured walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap and checkered buttplate. Drop at the comb is 1 3/8 inches, drop at the heel 2 1/4 inches and the length of pull is 13 3/4 inches.
