"This book was published for the American Centennial Celebration in 1876. It was an enlargement & revision of a volume originally published in 1844. This prison at Wethersfield, Connecticut was just as infamous as it's namesake in England. It was opened in 1773 and saw considerable use during the Revolutionary War for the Tory prisoners captured in Connecticut. It also includes some earlier Connecticut history going back to King Philip's War in the late 17th century."
