NEW YORK CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY ARMLESS LOLLING CHAIR ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS BURLING (1746-1802).
American, late 18th Century. Shaped crest and front seat rail, beige upholstery with brass tack trim, square molded front legs, pierce carved brackets, and box stretchers. 17" seat ht. 38.5'h.

Cataloguer's note: Thomas Burling was a well-known New York cabinet maker, producing both Chippendale and Federal style furniture. His clients included George Washington, whose first Presidential home in New York City was predominantly furnished from Burling's shop; and Thomas Jefferson who purchased Burling furniture for Monticello.   • Condition: Discoloration to upholstery, minor wear to feet, stable, very little left-to-right movement. (BH 7.22.26)
