NEIL ARMSTRONG (1930-2012) - NASA APOLLO 11 LUNAR SURFACE PHOTOGRAPH (NASA OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH, 69-HC-881)

Provenance and Authenticity:

This item is presented as an official NASA photographic print from the Apollo 11 mission, depicting the lunar surface near the historic landing location in the Sea of Tranquility. The image includes the original NASA caption identifying the location and mission context, with an inscription attributed to Neil Armstrong placed along the lower margin. The photograph represents an important visual document from humanity's first successful crewed lunar landing mission.

Signature:

Neil Armstrong

Description:

The photograph captures the rugged lunar terrain of the Sea of Tranquility, showing the cratered surface and stark geological landscape encountered during the Apollo 11 exploration. The official NASA presentation format, including the printed mission caption and archival photographic border, preserves the historical character of this important space exploration image. The addition of Neil Armstrong's inscription enhances the connection between the photograph and the first human lunar expedition.

Historical significance:

Apollo 11 remains one of the most significant achievements in the history of exploration, marking the first time humans reached and walked upon the surface of the Moon in July 1969. Neil Armstrong's role as mission commander made him one of the most recognizable figures in aerospace history, and photographs connected with the Apollo program continue to represent scientific achievement, technological innovation, and a defining moment of the twentieth century.

Valuation:

Apollo 11 photographic material connected with Neil Armstrong remains among the most desirable categories of space memorabilia. Official NASA imagery combined with Armstrong-related presentation carries strong collector appeal due to its historical importance, limited availability, and direct connection to one of humanity's greatest exploration milestones.
