N. Hermsen Signed, Master Engraved, and Gold Inlaid 28 Gauge Parker Brothers VHE Grade Double Barrel Hammerless Shotgun The consignor indicated this shotgun was the personal gun of the late Herschel Chadick Jr. (1938-2016), owner of Chadick's Ltd. and an authority on Parker Brothers recently recognized in the Parker Gun Foundation’s Hall of Fame. The bottom of the action has "CHADICK'S LTD" with the "C" extending down to form a circle around a pair of shotguns and a snipe. There are also highly detailed rural scenes with a total of six gold inlaid birds on the sides of the action and bottom of the trigger guard, a barn on the bottom towards the front of the action, a gold bunny on the lever, and the serial number in gold on the lower tang. The scenes are accented by floral engraving. "N. HERMSEN ENG." is signed to the right of the trigger guard. Neil Hermsen is a master level independent engraver from North Carolina. This gun is pictured in his portfolio on his website. It has full chokes, a steel post front sight, "PARKER BROTHERS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. VULCAN STEEL" flanked by arrows on top of the textured concave rib, matching numbered barrel lug, matching serial number on the checkered splinter forearm and water table in addition to the grade and patent markings, manual tang safety, double triggers, and a multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with standard embossed hard rubber grip cap and buttplate, plain silver initial shield, 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb, 2 1/8 inch drop at the heel, and 14 inch length of pull. According to "The Parker Story," 503 28 gauge Grade 0 hammerless guns with 28 inch barrels were manufactured. The barrel measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .548/.547 inch; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .046/.046 inch.
