Mother Teresa Signed "Peace, Justice, Progress" Unique United Nations First Day Cover
Envelope/First Day Cover

Exceptionally attractive First Day Cover commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations (1945-1970), postmarked United Nations, New York, November 20, 1970, and bearing the official 6-cent "Peace, Justice and Progress" United Nations postage stamp with its matching First Day of Issue cancellation. The cachet prominently features symbolic scales of justice, the United Nations emblem, and the inscription "Peace, Justice, Progress," reflecting the ideals celebrated during the organization's silver anniversary. The cover is boldly inscribed and signed in blue ink by Mother Teresa, reading: "God bless you / M Teresa mc." Measures 6.5" x 3.675".

Issued in 1970 to mark the 25th anniversary of the United Nations, this First Day Cover celebrates the organization's founding mission to promote international peace, justice, and cooperation in the aftermath of the Second World War. The themes represented on the cover closely parallel the life's work of Mother Teresa, who devoted herself to serving the poorest and most vulnerable through the Missionaries of Charity. Although she was not formally affiliated with the United Nations, her humanitarian mission embodied many of the same ideals of compassion, dignity, and peace promoted by the organization.

At the time this cover was signed, Mother Teresa had already achieved international recognition for her charitable work in Calcutta and beyond. Throughout the 1970s her global reputation continued to grow, culminating in the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in recognition of her unwavering dedication to caring for "the poorest of the poor."
