Comprising a large and impressive ormolu-mounted, hand-painted cobalt and gilt-decorated Sevres or Sevres style porcelain Napoleonic lidded vase, 19th century. Of baluster form with finely and entirely painted scene of the Battle of Rivoli after the original 1845 painting by the noted French artist Henri Felix Emmanuel Philippoteaux (1815-1884), and currently held at the Galerie des Batailles, in the Palace of Versailles. Signed E. Vernet for noted porcelain painter Emile Vernet-Lecomte (1821-1900), a renowned 19th century French Academic painter whose classical and orientalist scenes were adapted onto decorative fine porcelain such as the offered lot. Resting on a gilt bronze square base with notched corners, the socle base with gilt-decorated laurel wreath on a cobalt ground, the shoulders of vase set with ornate gilt-bronze handles suspended with rings, and the neck with gilt French Imperial Eagle on cobalt ground, and the domed lid with gilt crowned N within a laurel wreath and with gilt bronze pinecone finial. Stunning! The interior of lid or cover with painted Imperial Sevres mark. Height 39.5 inches (100cm).
