Military Contract Mauser Model 1896 Small Ring Broomhandle Semi-Automatic Pistol in 9mm with Matching Numbered Shoulder Stock Rig Features blade front and tangent rear sights graduated to 500 meters, "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" on the top of the chamber, "Crown/Crown/U" proof on the left, "crown/gothic letter" on the right, the serial number on the upper left side flats, and a "6-pointed star/M" on the underside. It has the standard two-line marking on the right side of the frame, milled panels, niter blue small parts, matching numbers, stock cut back strap, lanyard ring, and a pair of checkered hardwood grips. Includes a hardwood stock holster numbered "654" on the iron to match the pistol, a brown leather stock harness with a faint "KARLSRUHE iB/1917" marking on the back, steel and wood cleaning rod and a spare magazine spring. Though not bearing the traditional "Red Nine" grips, this appears to have been a military contract Broomhandle based on the proofmarks. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: 1896 BBL: 5 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm parabellum Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 68654 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine with 75% of the original blue finish showing bright steel on the underside of the barrel, the sides of the frame and on the back strap, likely from contact with the holster, as well as some bright edge wear, mild spotting and scattered handling marks. The custom checkered wood grips are fine period replacements with a few dents and chips on the checkering. The stock is also fine with the exterior color notably lighter in the areas traditionally covered by the harness, mild spotting and wear on the iron, and light handling marks. The harness is in rough condition and has a number of cracks, tears and areas of lost stitching. Mechanically excellent.
