Rare World War II Late Production Mauser Model G41(M) Semi-Automatic Rifle with Desirable Stamped Trigger Housing This is a good example of a very late production WWII G41(M) rifle as manufactured in 1942, that used a stamped trigger housing. The stamping process was really pioneered by the Germans during WWII and in this example it was used to produce the complete trigger housing and box magazine assembly. This rifle design is well known as an early German attempt to develop and produce a semi-automatic rifle. Two firms competed in this effort; Walther and Mauser with the Mauser design being a complicated, dual bolt action/semi-automatic design which used a modified "Bang" gas trap system. In the semi-automatic mode the bolt served as the charging handle, chambering the first round and cocking the striker, but in event of a gas system failure the operator could continue to fire the weapon like a conventional bolt action rifle. This was a complicated rifle to produce and it lost out the Walther design, which evolved into the G41/43 semi-automatic rifle design. The Mauser design was only produced for a couple years before it was deemed too costly and time consuming to produce. The top of the receiver is stamped "G41(M)/1942" with the standard Mauser "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof on various parts and components. The barrel is fitted with a standard blade front sight with a sheet metal sight cover with a tangent rear sight graduated "1-12". It is fitted with a standard pistol grip walnut stock, a short mid-length walnut handguard and a cupped steel buttplate. The side and pistol grip area of the stock has the standard "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof. There are matching serial numbers present on the visible parts overall. This example is complete with a WWII German brown leather sling. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: G41 (m) BBL: 22 inches round Stock: walnut Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 12646 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Fine overall with 60% of the original blue finish remaining overall with all the exposed metal surfaces showing a very thin weak blue finish with most of the better blue in the protected areas of the rifle. The stock and handguards are both in fine condition with a nice medium brown color overall showing minor light scratches and handling marks overall. The buttplate does some corrosion and the sling is in fine condition. One will look a long time to find another rare example of this highly sought after rifle!
