SN 5409. Cal. 7.63 mm. Standard configuration mid-production Mauser Conehammer that has been exqusitely custom embellished with gold line highlighting and a presentation inscription. Usual 5.5" bbl with fixed front sight and pinned 1-10 rear sight. Long extractor and independently secured firing pin. 3-line Mauser address on the chamber with Crown/Crown U proofing on left chamber flat and antler acceptance on right side. The top of the bbl is gold inscribed "EXMO. SR. MINISTRO LUIS M. CAMPOS". The left side of the frame is marked as a gift, highlighted in gold, "RECUERDO de / -PAUL MAUSER- / Y DE LA / MANUFAKTURA WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF O. NECKAR / -1899-". Full SN appears on backstrap, just under locking lever, and is repeated under the rear sight, bolt stop, firing pin retainer, and hammer. Disassembly shows a matching floorplate, follower, sub-frame and related components, locking block, bolt, firing pin and each of the walnut serrated grips. Major parts rust blued with fire blued small parts, grayed hammer and bright polished trigger. Lanyard ring present. Presented in a oak case having a 1.5" medallion on lid with initials "LMC". Lid, that has broken free of hinges, is lined in cream silk imprinted with gold Waffenfabrik Mauser address. Base lined in purple velvet, compartmentalized for pistol, 2 stripper clips (not present), reproduction cleaning rod (present), and box of ammo (oiler in this space). Lid secured with two rotating brass clasps and a central keyed lock. PROVENANCE: The Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Collection - Germany. CONDITION: Beautifully embellished pistol retains at least 98% of reapplied rust blue with just a few minuscule dings under the bbl, trace wear at the leading edge of floorplate that has a small scratch and minor imperfections on the front and back strap. No discernible losses of the gold highlighting, whose pattern reflects the style used by Mauser in the early 20th Century. Fire blued parts retain 80-90% orig finish. Comparable condition grips with orig varnish, showing superficial handling dings. Dull bore with shallow rifling and oxidation. Perfect manual mechanics. Case is in good condition with lid separation previously noted. Artificial staining and imperfections of lid and base liner, particularly where in contact with pistol and accessories. Near excellent cleaning rod and VG oiler. A beautiful custom embellished ensemble. 49828-69 LMA
