World War I Mauser Commercial Broomhandle Semi-Automatic Pistol with Shoulder Stock and Leather Harness This is an example of a early WWI era 1896 commercial contract Broomhandle Mauser pistol that is complete with a non-matching numbered wooden combination shoulder stock/holster. This pistol has the wartime blued finish on the major parts, the heat blued small parts, and the narrow serrated grip panels. The top of the barrel chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N," and the left side of the chamber area is marked with a "Crown/U," and an additional "Crown/U" proof is on top of the rear section of the breech bolt. The right side rear frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A. NECKAR/D.R.P.U.A.P." It is fitted with the standard fixed front sight, adjustable rear sight graduated from 50 to 1,000 meters, and the early style hammer without the later "NS" markings. The pistol is fitted with the standard commercial 12 groove grip panels and a lanyard loop on the butt. It is complete with an original combination wooden shoulder stock/holster that has an original non-matching attaching iron that is numbered on top (194) with a very small "GERMANY" stamped on the right side of the door. It has an original unmarked, short version of the pre-war leather carrying harness. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: 1896 BBL: 5 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.63 mm Mauser auto Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 152621 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 90% of the slightly faded original wartime blued finish showing even honest wear overall with thinning on the sides and top of the barrel, the frame rails, grip straps as well as the general edges and high spots overall. The grips have nice distinct grooves with some minor nicks and chips in a couple of places. The small parts retain 85% overall of their heat blued finish. The shoulder stock has a nice original oil finish with minor scratches, nicks and light pressure dings on the sides. The left side does has a large minor pressure dent from rubbing on something, and the leather carrying harness is dark with supple leather and complete stitching and hold down strap. The pistol has matching numbers. A solid example of an 1896 Mauser wartime commercial rig.
