John Martz Custom "Commercial Krieghoff" Style Luger Carbine with Extra Magazine and Case Customized in California by John Martz, this Luger pistol has been upgraded to match the configuration of the Luger Carbine, with the addition of the Martz Safe Toggle Release, an automatic hold-open release integrated into the safety. While Martz was known to use a wide variety of military and commercial Lugers as raw material for his work, this particular example is noteworthy, as many of the components appear to have been sourced from a rare non-rejected Heinrich Krieghoff Commercial Luger with side address; while Krieghoff did end up selling a number of Lugers "over the counter" during the War, the majority were rejects from a Luftwaffe contract, though some have been found that seem to have been simply pulled from the line mid-process and finished for sale with no Luftwaffe refusal. Ramped bead blade front sight and 4-position peep rear sight, with "9MM JVM" on the underside of the barrel, "crown/N" on the undated extension, Luftwaffe "eagle/2" proofs on some small parts and a Type C-2 "KRIEGHOFF/SUHL" stamp on the goggle. The left side of the frame is marked "JVM" and "40" in ovals beneath the side plate, and "Heinrich Krieghoff/Waffenfabrik/Suhl" above the grip. Fitted with straw colored small parts, niter blue pins and springs, and two nickel finished magazines with "JVM" marked bases numbered "1" and "2". The furniture consists of a Schnabel-tip forearm, a pair of smooth bordered grips and a straight wrist buttstock, all showing an extra fancy grain and sharp checkering, with a sling swivel on the butt and a checkered horn buttplate. Included with the pistol is a custom leather-bound hardwood case with vintage-style buckling retention straps, a DWM-style tag inside the lid, and a blue suede lined French cut interior.
