Excellent Special Order Marlin Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Rifle in Desirable 38-55 Caliber Manufactured in 1906, this is an excellent example of a special order Marlin Model 1893 Takedown rifle with half octagon barrel and deluxe checkered wood. The barrel is equipped with a Lyman blade front sight with white bead and adjustable rear sporting sight. The top barrel flat is marked "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN CT. U.S.A./PATENTED OCT. 11,1887, APRIL 2, 1889, AUGUST 1,1893" directly ahead of the rear sight, "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" flanked by a diamond on the left rear flat and "38-55" on the top flat at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY", the upper tang "MODEL/1893" and the serial number is marked on the bottom front of the frame. Casehardened receiver, hammer and lever and blue finished barrel and half length magazine. Mounted with a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with steel forend cap and checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate. Manufacturer: Marlin Firearms Co Model: 1893 BBL: 26 inch part octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 38-55 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 355063 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Excellent. The barrel and magazine retain 97% of the original blue finish with some thinning and minor spotting on the muzzle and some high edge wear. The forend cap shows some thinning and edge wear. The receiver, lever and hammer retain 80% of the original vivid case colors with the balance having a smooth gray patina. With exception of a few moderate scratches on the buttstock, the wood is very fine with almost all of the original varnish, a few scattered overall minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
