LUCIEN BONAPARTE
(1775 – 1840) Younger brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, served as the final President of the Council of Five Hundred at the end of the French Revolution. Bonaparte was crucial to the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire in which Napoleon Bonaparte overthrew the government of the Directory to replace it with the Consulate on 9 November 1799. Manuscript D.S. ‘Lucien Bonaparte' as ambassador in Spain, 1p. legal folio, [n.p., Apr. 20, 1801], a copy of a notice from an agent regarding a widow's complaint made during a historic outbreak of dengue fever, and suggesting she be informed that ‘…steps to be taken in this regard would be very costly, and it would perhaps be better to use the funds to search through the registers and extract the necessary documents…'. Boldly signed at conclusion. Rough right edge, folds, still very good.
