Very Scarce Early Production Two-Digit Serial Number "19" German V. C. Schilling Bergmann Model 1896 No. 2 First Iteration Folding Trigger Semi-Automatic Pocket Pistol One of fewer than 500 Bergman Model 1896 No. 2 first iteration folding trigger pocket pistols manufactured in 1896 by the V. Charles Schilling firm in Germany. This early production example is bearing the two-digit serial number "19". The first iteration of the Model 1896 No. 2 pistol uses a hinged forward-folding trigger located ahead of the magazine with a long transfer bar connecting it to the rest of the mechanism intended to make it easily concealed in a pocket. The first iteration Model 1896 No. 2 was phased out of production less than a year later for a second iteration with a conventional fixed trigger. It has a fixed beaded blade front sight and integral notch rear sight on the bolt, commercial "crown/crown/U" proofs, "611" stamped on the left of the barrel, the three-line marking "PATENT/BREVETE/S.G.D.G" on the left of the frame, and the oval encircled Bergmann "shining mountain man" logo on the right side plate, and the serial number on the forward right portion of the frame. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips and the interiors correctly have handwritten matching serial numbers.
