'THE HISTORY OF NEW-ENGLAND CONTAINING AN IMPARTIAL ACCOUNT OF THE CIVIL AND ECCLESIASTICAL AFFAIRS OF THE COUNTRY TO 1700...'
Rare pair of important volumes: 'The History of New-England: Containing an Impartial Account of the Civil and Ecclesiastical Affairs Of the Country, to the Year of Our Lord, 1700 ; to which is added, The Present State of New-England: With a New and Accurate Map of the Country, and an Appendix containing their Present Charter, their Ecclesiastical Discipline, and their Municipal-Laws', by Daniel Neal. Printed for J. Clark, at the Bible & Crown in the Poultry, R. Ford, at the Angel in the Poultry, and R. Cruttenden, at the Bible and Three Crowns, in Cheapside, London, 1720. First edition, two volumes in full leather, very good condition. Pagination correct per Howe's listing for the first edition. The map following the table of contents is in fine condition, save two trivial marginal splits which do not detract. A library label and a few ink notes appear on the front pastedown of both volumes, and there is some offset staining to the margins of both title pages from the leather covers, otherwise the contents are excellent. A trove of information on pre-Revolution America, its history, government, religious regulations, charters, and laws. Daniel Neal (1678-1743) was an English historian and minister, a dissenting divine and ecclesiastical writer of considerable eminence.
