Catalogue Note: Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski (1745-1779) was a Polish patriot and American Revolutionary War hero, who came to America after being exiled from Poland in 1773 for his part in the attempted kidnapping of the Polish King. He arrived in Boston in 1777 and, upon the advice of Benjamin Franklin, he was appointed brigadier general by Gen. Washington in the Continental Army cavalry. Pulaski compiled the first set of regulations for the cavalry, earning him the title "Father of the American Cavalry." He was killed during the siege of Savannah. Pulaski Co. and the town of Pulaski were named in honor of the general, as were many other locations across the United States.
