Well-Documented Factory Engraved First Year Production Colt House Model "Cloverleaf" Spur Trigger Revolver Manufactured in 1871, the first year of production, this is a very attractive example of Colt's "House Pistol", also known as the "Cloverleaf" Model due to its distinct four-shot cylinder. This revolver is pictured and described on p. 184 of "The William M. Locke Collection" by Frank Sellers. Only approximately 7,500 of these distinct, "cloverleaf" House Model revolvers produced by Colt between 1871 and 1876 according to Flayderman, making attractive examples like this fairly scarce. The top of the barrel has the two-line model and address flanked by Maltese crosses. The matching serial number is on the butt, bottom of the barrel, and hand written in ink inside both grip panels. The sides of the frame and top of the back strap show the attractive flourishes of factory floral scroll engraving. It has standard features including smooth walnut grips.
