An elegant hand-colored fashion plate from the celebrated French periodical *La Mode Illustrée*, depicting two fashionable ladies attired in finely detailed Victorian-era ensembles. One figure is shown standing beneath a parasol in a richly ornamented yellow walking dress, while her companion is seated in an elaborate blue bustle gown accented with matching bonnet and accessories. The figures are set within a refined garden setting, exemplifying the sophistication and elegance of late 19th-century French fashion illustration. Published in Paris, *La Mode Illustrée* (1860–1937) was among the most influential fashion journals of the Victorian period, renowned for its beautifully engraved and hand-colored plates illustrating the latest Parisian couture. These engravings served not only as fashion references but also as works of decorative art, prized for their exceptional craftsmanship and vibrant hand-applied coloring. Many were engraved by prominent French artists and printed by noted Parisian publishers such as Leroy Imp., whose imprint is visible below the image. Professionally matted beneath glass and presented in a tasteful gilt-finished frame, this decorative engraving captures the refinement of 19th-century French society and remains highly desirable among collectors of antique fashion ephemera, costume history, and Victorian decorative arts.

  • Literature: *La Mode Illustrée* was published in Paris from 1860 through 1937 and remains one of the most important illustrated fashion journals of the Victorian era. Original hand-colored fashion plates from the publication are represented in museum costume collections and are widely collected for their historical significance and decorative appeal.
  • Circa: Late 19th century, circa 1870–1890.
  • Condition: Appears to be in very good vintage condition. Hand-colored engraving displays well with attractive color retention. Professionally matted and framed under glass in a gilt-finished frame exhibiting light age-appropriate wear. Minor toning consistent with age may be present. Not examined out of frame.
