This large hand painted gouache on papyrus Egyptian painting depicts a scene in the traditional New Kingdom style, likely inspired by the murals in the Tomb of Nefertari. The composition features Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor holding hands; Hathor is identified by her cow-horn and sun-disk headdress and holds a was-scepter. The artwork is executed in opaque gouache and metallic gold pigments on a sheet of handmade papyrus. Vertical columns of hieroglyphs and a central royal cartouche flank the figures. The piece is signed in Arabic script in the lower left corner as Atef El-Santawy. The papyrus is float-mounted to highlight its characteristic irregular deckled edges and is presented in a contemporary black frame with a gold-toned inner fillet under glass.
