Very Scarce World War I U.S. Remington-UMC Model 10-A Slide Action Trench Shotgun with Bayonet The Remington-UMC Model 10-A trench shotguns were manufactured during World War I under a U.S. Army contract for 3,500 and found in the reported serial number range of 117731-165566 per page 56 of "Complete Guide to United States Military Combat Shotguns" by Bruce Canfield. The Remington Model 10 shotgun was originally designed by the well respected engineer John Pedersen; with the Model 10-A trench variation featuring a 23-inch barrel, wooden handguard, and bayonet lug for use with the M1917 bayonet. Serial number "U/164109" marked on the front underside of the receiver, and the barrel is marked with the matching serial number "164109" upside down on the lower right rear side of the breech, with "CYL" choke marking stamped over top of a previous "MODI." on the bottom of the barrel (choke measures cylinder). The unmarked bayonet lug adapter has a silver bead front sight, with a flaming bomb stamp above "US" on the left side of the receiver. Fitted with an oil finished walnut handguard, ribbed pump handle, smooth pistol grip buttstock, and a checkered hard rubber buttplate with the Remington-UMC trademark logo. Sling swivels attached to the front end of the magazine tube and underside of the buttstock. 13 3/4 inch length of pull. Includes a Remington manufactured U.S. M1917 bayonet dated "1917" on the blade, with an olive drab green painted leather scabbard.

  • Condition: Very good as restored, retains 98% blue finish, with some light pitting, and legible markings. The wood is also very good, with dings and scratches, absent rear sling swivel, a few chips and cracks remaining otherwise sound. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are both very good, with some light oxidation, general age related wear, and a sharp blade.
