  • Provenance:
Gallery Juarez Inc., Los Angeles, CA
Collection of Stefan Lawrence, founder of Twentieth Gallery, Los Angeles, CA

    Other notes:
Stefan Lawrence was a Los Angeles–based gallerist and founder/director of the influential design and contemporary art space Twentieth Gallery. He established the gallery in the 1990s, initially focusing on mid-century modern design before evolving it into a leading venue for cutting-edge contemporary design and art, showcasing both established and emerging international talent. Under his vision, Twentieth became known for its seamless blending of art and functional design.

Lawrence played a significant role in shaping Los Angeles's design scene and was internationally respected for more than two decades. The works offered in this auction come from his personal collection, including pieces acquired throughout his career as well as items given to him by friends, artists, and collectors.

Spanning photography, contemporary design, mid-century aesthetics, African design, and forward-thinking experimental work, the breadth of the collection reflects Lawrence's wide-ranging interests and discerning eye. It stands as a testament to a singular taste that deeply influenced both his business and the creative community around him.
