An elegant assembled lot of ten sterling silver-mounted crystal coasters by the esteemed American silversmith Frank M. Whiting & Co., each retaining its original cut crystal insert and marked "Frank M. Whiting & Co. Sterling 04 Pat. Pending." Featuring broad sterling silver gallery rims surrounding removable crystal liners, the coasters display refined neoclassical styling with delicate beaded or ropework borders and finely cut starburst bases. The substantial silver mounts beautifully frame the crystal inserts, creating an understated yet sophisticated presentation suitable for formal entertaining. Founded in North Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1878, Frank M. Whiting & Co. established itself as one of America's premier sterling silver manufacturers, renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, elegant hollowware, and finely executed table accessories. Their sterling-mounted coasters remain highly sought after for their quality of manufacture and timeless design. The group appears to include slight variations in border decoration, reflecting production over time while maintaining a harmonious overall appearance. Such coasters were designed to protect fine furniture while elegantly presenting wine glasses, tumblers, or decanters during formal service. An impressive collection ideal for use on a large dining table, entertaining, or as an addition to a collection of American sterling silver hollowware. Complete sets and larger groupings by Frank M. Whiting & Co. are increasingly desirable among collectors for both their decorative appeal and practical functionality.

  • Literature: Comparable examples appear in early Frank M. Whiting & Co. sterling silver catalogs featuring table accessories and barware. Frank M. Whiting & Co. was among America's leading sterling silver manufacturers, producing finely crafted coasters, wine accessories, hollowware, and flatware that remain highly collectible today.
  • Circa: Early 20th Century, circa 1905–1925.
  • Condition: Overall very good antique condition. The sterling silver mounts exhibit light surface scratches, scattered tarnish, and minor age-related wear consistent with decades of use. The removable crystal inserts display expected surface wear, with some examples showing light scratches and minor flea bites or small edge imperfections. One coaster exhibits heavier tarnish than the others. All are marked "Frank M. Whiting & Co. Sterling 04 Pat. Pending."
