A pair of Victorian sterling silver forks in the Louis XV pattern by Whiting Manufacturing Company. Each fork features an ornate rococo-revival handle decorated with heavy scrolling foliate and shell motifs. The four-tined heads feature the wide, curved outer tine characteristic from the late 19th century. The tines are finished with a gold-washed vermeil over the sterling silver base. The reverse of the stems includes several stamped marks: the Whiting Manufacturing Company maker mark (a stylized griffin or lion rampant), the purity mark STERLING, and the patent date PAT. 1891. The handles also bear the retailer mark H MUHR'S SONS, indicating they were originally sold by the Philadelphia-based firm. Total weight 56g.
