Four U.S. World War II Patches from the 446th Bombardment Group All four patches in the lot are for the 446th Bombardment Group, embroidered, and round unless noted. Formed in 1943, the 446th has the credit for executing the first heavy bomber mission on D-Day, interdicting German logistics to disrupt attempts to respond to the Normandy landing, also supporting ground forces for Caen, St. Lo, Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. 1) 446th Group patch, 5" wide shield with designs of the Statue of Liberty, bombs falling on target, and "VOLER VENGER VAINGRE" (Fly Avenge Conquer) in a ribbon. 2) 704th Bomb Squadron patch, 4 3/4" diameter featuring a Disney-style vulture smoking a cigar. 3) 705th Bomb Squadron patch, 5 1/2" wide oval featuring a bomber with alligator-like features and "H" marked tail dropping bombs. 4) 706th Bomb Squadron patch, 5" diameter featuring a pegasus and a five-pointed star.
