Elizabeth MacDonald (Born 1935) American, Limited Edition Ceramic Book Sculpture. Shaped like a slipcover with a hollow interior, the rectangular shape has a small area in the center which resembles a canyon face with a staircase ascending into darkness within, a tiny figure standing at the foot of it. Numbered 1/4 bottom left. Signed bottom right. Hanging metal cord on the back.

Size: 11 x 9 x 3 in.

Elizabeth MacDonald was born April 3rd, 1935 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and obtained a Bachelors in Theater from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1956. She then traveled to London, where she trained to be an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, but wound up at a secretarial school in New York after returning to the States, eventually becoming an assistant drama school director and later working with a Broadway producer. While living in Greenwich Village she began taking night classes in drawing and painting at The New School, before discovering her true love for ceramics at Greenwich House Pottery. She continued to develop her skills while working as an actress alongside her husband in national theater tours and with the Seattle Repertory Theater, setting up her first studio at Pottery Northwest and later continuing her work at Cambridge before relocating permanently to Bridgewater, Connecticut in 1970. Since then she has continued to produce abstract large and small scale works that have wound up in collections all over the world, continuing to produce solo and group exhibitions into her nineties.
