The back features a quote: "I saw the field was spacious and the soil so good, as to promise an ample recompense to any who should labour diligently in its cultivation" followed by a stylized signature, 'Jos: Wedgwood'. The base is marked 'In commemoration of the exhibition 'Josiah Wedgwood - the Arts and Sciences United' at the Science Museum, London. 1978.' and identifies the manufacturer as 'WEDGWOOD OF ETRURIA MADE IN ENGLAND BARLASTON'. A circular sticker on the base indicates 'RUBIN COLLECTION'.
