This circular decorative wall plaque is crafted from hand-hammered copper using the repousse technique, where the relief design is pushed forward from the reverse. The central medallion depicts a stylized face modeled after the Aztec sun god, Tonatiuh, as seen on the historic Aztec Sun Stone. This central motif is encircled by concentric bands containing various Mesoamerican calendar and celestial symbols. The middle register features an eight-pointed star motif interspersed with geometric and figurative patterns. The piece is finished with a scalloped and crimped edge along the outer rim. The reverse side shows a natural, dull oxidized copper surface and includes a pre-attached metal hanging bracket.
