Very Fine Cased Pair of Gold Inlaid and Engraved Percussion Dueling Pistols by Prelate of Paris -A) Prelate Percussion Pistol Very Fine Cased Pair of Gold Inlaid and Engraved Percussion Dueling Pistols by Prelate of Paris -A) Prelate Percussion Pistol Francois Prelat (1781-1859) is known for multiple patents in France in the early 19th century including for the percussion cap and during the Bourbon Restoration was appointed gunmaker to Comte diaries Charles Philippe (the future King Charles X of France). This pair is signed "PRELAT A PARIS" in gold inlay on the locks and barrels and has primarily scroll engraving. The finely rifled Damascus barrels have dovetailed blade front sights and "1" (A) and "2" (B) in gold inlay, and fixed notch rear sights are on the standing breeches ahead of "1" (A) and "2" (B) also in gold. The pistols are also equipped with adjustable single set triggers, spurred trigger guards, and figured half-stocks with Schnabel forfend tips, checkered wrists, "54" stamped on the left flats, and contrasting flared pommels. The pair comes in an attractive brass mounted mahogany case with purple lining, and a suite of loading and maintenance equipment. The lid escutcheon is inscribed "LG".

  • Condition: A) Very fine with crisp engraving and checkering, bright gold inlays, 80% plus of the original brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrel as well as a few minor spots of light pitting, 90% plus original vivid case colors, repaired crack in the refinished stock on the left at the breech, minor dings and scratches, and general light age and storage related wear. Mechanically functions. The case is fine with mild storage wear including some cracks and chips. The accessories are generally very fine, especially the bullet mold which has 98% plus of the bright case colors. B) Very fine overall with crisp engraving and checkering, bright gold inlays, 80% plus of the original brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrel as well as a few minor spots of light pitting, 90% plus original vivid case colors, some dings and scratches, refinished stock, and general light age and storage related wear. Mechanically functions.
