Excellent World War II U.S. Property Marked Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless General Officer's Semi-Automatic Pistol Identified to First Lieutenant Charles B. Hegeman of the 9th Air Force with Box and Shipping Invoice Manufactured in 1942. An accompanying shipping invoice lists this pistol by serial number as shipped on January 29, 1946, from the U.S. Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, to 1st Lieutenant Charles B. Hegeman at 104 Hampden Street in West Springfield, Massachusetts, who purchased it for $28.75. Charles Bennett Hegeman (June 12, 1914-April 21, 2003) enlisted with the U.S. Air Force in 1942 during World War II, and was active duty until 1946. He served with the 9th Air Force in England, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg during the war. This Colt General Officer's pistol, serial number 567881, is one serial number away from 567882 listed as issued on October 20, 1961, to Major General George Henry Walker per page 141 of "The Colt Pocket Hammerless Automatic Pistols" by Brunner, with the same serial number also listed on page 72 of "The Colt U.S. General Officers' Pistol" by Greeley. Features a parkerized finish with the "U.S. PROPERTY" marking on the right side of the frame, fixed blade front and notch rear sights, blued barrel with polished chamber hood, standard two-line Colt address and patent dates on the left side of the slide with caliber marking on the right side and the matching serial number on the interior, "73" marked on the right of the trigger guard with a "VP" in a triangle proof and "X" on the left side, and the serial number on the left of the frame. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions and a blued magazine with "CAL.32/COLT" marked on the underside of the floor plate. Includes an original Kraft pattern box with matching number "567881" on the bottom and two extra magazines sealed in period wrap.
