This Royal Bayreuth porcelain wall pocket, also known as a match holder, features a molded Art Nouveau form with a flat back and a single hanging hole. The front pouch is decorated with a detailed tavern scene depicting two cavaliers in 17th-century style dress seated at a table; one figure plays a lute while the other holds a glass. The scene is set against a shaded brown background and is signed DIXON at the bottom right. The upper portion and scrolled edges of the vessel are finished in a deep burgundy to purple iridescent luster glaze. The reverse side bears a blue underglaze factory mark featuring two lions rampant flanking a shield with a stylized letter P, topped with a crown. The text Roy. Bayreuth and BAVARIA surround the crest, with a banner reading PRIV. 1794.
