Desirable Smith & Wesson .357 Registered Magnum Double Action Revolver with Box and Factory Letter Manufactured in 1937, this is an exceptionally fine example of Smith & Wesson's iconic .357 Registered Magnum. These revolvers were all special ordered and hand fitted, leading to high production costs and a fairly short production run of only around 5,500. In a 2010 article for the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association Journal, Roy Jinks notes that only 1,439 of these Registered Magnums were produced with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. The included factory letter lists the revolver with registration no. 3247, a 6 1/2 inch barrel, Patridge blade front sight, a square notch rear sight, blue finish, checkered walnut grips with grip adapters attached (grip adapters currently absent), and sighted at 20 yards with .38 special mid-range ammunition for a 6 o'clock hold when shipped to H.A. Campbell in Newark, Ohio, on 19 November 1937. The revolver has the standard Smith & Wesson markings, as well as matching serial numbers on the butt, rear face of the cylinder, in the ejector rod shroud, front face of the ejector star, and rear face of the crane. The matching assembly number is on the frame and crane, and the registration number is on the frame. It is fitted with a pinned Patridge blade front sight, adjustable notch rear sight, and a pair of unnumbered checkered walnut magna grips with "S&W" monogram medallions. Includes a correct factory blue and gold Registered Magnum box and a copy of the invoice.
