A group of four English earthenware plates manufactured by Wedgwood, each featuring maritime-themed transfer-printed decoration. This collection includes a variety of historical and commemorative subjects, and each piece bears a Rubin Collection provenance sticker on the reverse. The first plate is a commemorative piece featuring the ship The Mayflower. It is decorated with a brown transfer-printed central scene of the vessel at sea, framed by an ornate border of shells, flowers, and anchors. The reverse contains a detailed historical text regarding the ship's 1620 voyage and is marked with the Etruria and Wedgwood factory stamps. The second plate is a limited edition commemorative work for the USS Enterprise (CVAN-65), issued in 1960. The central brown transfer-printed image depicts the aircraft carrier at sea. The wide border features eight circular vignettes of previous historical ships named Enterprise, topped by an American eagle and shield. The reverse includes marks for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, the Wedgwood factory mark, and a lengthy history of the various ships named USS Enterprise. The third item is a trial plate for the Landscape pattern. It features a blue transfer-printed coastal harbor scene at the center of a scalloped rim with a molded lattice texture. A dark geometric Greek key and swag border ring the inner rim. The reverse is hand-marked Trial in red ink and features a blue Wedgwood Etruria and Barlaston backstamp. The fourth plate depicts the American clipper ship Flying Cloud 1851 in blue transfer print as part of the Georgetown Collection by Wedgwood. The central ship is surrounded by a simple blue beaded border on the rim. The reverse is marked with the series name, pattern name, and the Wedgwood factory mark.
