GERMAN M38 PARATROOPER HELMET
Rare World War II M38 Fallschirmjager (Paratrooper) Helmet, of mid to late war construction with the exterior of helmet retaining virtually all of its original textured feldgrau paint, lacking decals as was the regulation for this period of production and showing only a few superficial scuff marks. Interior of the helmet features the special paratrooper helmet liner system, with zinc liner band and seven foam rubber shock pads supporting the leather head liner, all held in place with the mid-war style slotted non-vented aluminum bolts. Three of the four liner securing bolts are original and helmet is fitted with one replacement bolt which is an old styled oval head slotted screw with a square nut on the inside. This replacement set is actually blued and most likely period. The bolts show signs of having been taken apart or refitted at one time. The leather interior of the liner remains bright, showing some minor wear, and one rip between two of the large liner vent holes at the crown. The leather liner is marked with fully legible maker marks: 'Baumuster: Heisler, Berlin C2' / 'Hersteller: F. W. Muller jr.' and also with the size markings: Kopfweite: Gr. 56 / 'Stahlhelm - Gr. 68' The paratrooper styled leather 'Y' chinstrap is present and fully intact, with cinch buckle and both snaps both present, snap button painted brown with the whole chinstrap rig showing wear, but otherwise fine and supple. Exterior of the chin straps shows the blue/grey finish with the brown leather color to the bottom side and appears to be original to the helmet. Helmet skirt is marked to the lower rear with the late war heat stamped makers code: 'CKL 68' indicating manufacture by Eisenhuttenwerke Thale, and also with the batch number '4223'. Crown of helmet shell is ink stamped with a rare hand applied Abnahmestempel (dome acceptance stamp). Helmet and liner shows faint traces of sporadic red paint staining, now mostly removed. A most desirable helmet in overall excellent condition.
