Catalog note: From the collection of The Touchdown Club, Wash. D.C. Prior to closing in the 1990s, The Touchdown Club commissioned a series of 34 oil paintings from various artists depicting the inductees' entrance into the club's hall of fame.

The Touchdown Club was founded by Arthur "Dutch" Bergman, a former standout at the University of Notre Dame, who went on to become the head coach at Catholic University and then for the Washington Redskins. Bergman established the Touchdown Club of Washington D.C. in 1935 with the purpose of acknowledging outstanding football sportsmanship at the high school, college, and professional levels. The club's annual presentation of the Timmie Awards beginning in 1946, garnered national recognition and was referred to by Sports Illustrated as "the granddaddy of all sports banquets."
