Exceptional Factory Phil Coggan Signed, Engraved, and Multi-Colored Deep Relief Gold Inlaid A. Galazan/Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Co. Pinless Sidelock Over/Under Shotgun Anthony Galazan, of Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company (C.S.M.C.), has been producing exceptional guns in the United States for some 50 years, and many would say that he holds the title as the very finest maker in the country. Each and every Galazan gun is crafted by the hands of their skilled craftsman at their facility in New Britain, Connecticut, and engraved by some of the finest master engravers in the world, with this particular gun embellished by legendary English Master Engraver Phil Coggan. This gun was built in the early 21st century with blued steel demiblock bifurcated lump steel barrels featuring a single brass bead sight on the front sighting flat and "A. GALAZAN./CONNECTICUT SHOTGUN MFG. CO. USA." inlaid in gold on the rear sighting flat with no top rib, reminiscent of the famed early 20th century over/under shotguns by London's Boss & Co. The barrels are equipped with chambers marked 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are decorated with beautiful relief inlaid lines terminating in scrolls on either barrel wing, gold border inlay at the breech, and a trio of mallards in flight on either side of the upper breech rendered in relief gold inlays. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened pinless round body sidelock action which features a single trigger, hidden sideplate screws, double beaded trigger guard, and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid "SAFE" indicator. The action displays extensive relief gold inlaid acanthus scroll engraving in multiple alloys, creating different tones, and interspersed with rose gold flowers surrounding "A. GALAZAN." in gold on either side as well as water fowl scenes before flowing off of the action onto the toplever, trigger guard, and both tangs, the bottom of which bears the serial number in gold. The scenes consist of a pair of alighting geese on the left lockplate with a duck taking flight on the action body, another pair of geese coming to land on the underside, and a pair in flight on the right lockplate with another duck in flight on the action body, all of which are rendered in detailed relief gold inlay by Mr. Coggan, who has signed his work "P. COGGAN." in gold at the bottom of both lockplate scenes. The gun is fitted with a magnificently well-figured and gold border inlaid multi-point checkered forend with relief gold inlays on the blued push-rod release and extended iron which is marked "GALAZAN" also in gold. The straight grip stock displays more stunning figure and matching gold bordered checkering with "RML" inlaid in gold directly into the toe line and relief gold inlaid blued heel and toe plates around the checkered butt. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both measured .728 inches; choke constriction .014/.015 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.029 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 12 oz.
