A set of twelve ceramic pieces by Wedgwood in the Cuckoo pattern, consisting of six double-handled bouillon cups and six matching saucers from the collection of Dr. Ellis F. and Suzanne Borow Rubin. The set is manufactured from glazed earthenware, commonly referred to as creamware or Queensware, featuring an ochre yellow ground. The Chinoiserie-style decoration displays flowering branches with white blossoms, brown stems, and green leaves, accompanied by a small yellow and brown bird. This floral and bird motif appears on the exterior of the vessels and as a central medallion within the interior of the cups and at the center of the saucers. A dark brown stylized repeating border decorates the inner rim of each cup. The decoration technique employs transfer-printing with hand-painted polychrome enamel highlights. Each bouillon cup is designed with a flared rim, a short pedestal foot, and two scrolled handles. The matching saucers are deep in form. Markings on the base of the saucers include a purple printed mark for Wedgwood Etruria England, an impressed Wedgwood mark within a rectangular cartouche, a gold-toned printed Made in England mark with the code 8A84, and hand-painted red characters AK 7282 and P. An impressed numeral 5 is also present on the underside. Most pieces retain a circular gray collector sticker for the Rubin Collection.
