An elegant collection of three ruby overlay cut-to-clear crystal wine hocks, each displaying the exceptional artistry and brilliance for which Bohemian and Central European crystal has long been celebrated. Executed in richly colored ruby flashed crystal over clear, each stem showcases a distinct pattern of hand-cut ornament, highlighting the remarkable skill of the engraver and cutter. The tallest example features an elaborate lattice and oval panel design with finely executed mitre cuts and an ornate faceted stem terminating in an unusually decorative flower-form foot, a striking example of traditional Bohemian craftsmanship. Flanking this centerpiece are two complementary hock glasses of graceful proportion, each with slender clear stems and richly faceted bowls. One is decorated with bold geometric fan and lens cutting, while the other displays elegant olive and star motifs beneath a polished ruby rim, emphasizing the dramatic contrast between the ruby overlay and brilliant clear crystal beneath. Ruby overlay crystal, produced by applying a thin layer of colored glass over a clear crystal blank before extensive wheel cutting, became one of the defining luxuries of Bohemian glassmaking. The painstaking cutting process exposes the underlying clear crystal, creating dazzling patterns that capture and refract light with exceptional brilliance. Glasshouses throughout Bohemia, including renowned firms such as Moser, Egermann, and numerous regional workshops, elevated this technique to an internationally admired art form. Similar examples are illustrated in standard references on Bohemian and Czech decorative glass of the twentieth century.
  • Circa: Mid to late 20th century, circa 1960–1990.
  • Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. Each glass presents well with brilliant clarity and sharp cutting. Light surface wear commensurate with careful age and handling may be present. No obvious cracks or repairs observed from the photographs. One or more glasses may exhibit minor flea bites or insignificant wear to the base consistent with use. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition report.
