This antique white ironstone pitcher was manufactured by J.W. Pankhurst and Co in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, between 1850 and 1882. The vessel is designed with a bulbous body, a flared scalloped spout, and a large C-scroll handle featuring a molded thumb-rest. The exterior is finished in a plain, glossy white glaze. The base of the pitcher features a black transfer-printed maker mark displaying the British Royal Arms above the text STONE CHINA and J. W. PANKHURST and CO. This form was originally intended for use as a water pitcher in a bedroom wash basin and ewer set. Dimensions: 9.50"L x 6.00"W x 9.25"H.
