A cased Chevalier De La Légion D'Honneur medal engraved to the reverse Presented to Elizabeth Fondaras Chevalier De La Légion d'Honneur 2000. The 3 1/2 inches in diameter medal in also engraved on the rim A. BOURBON. Elizabeth Robertson Fondaras (1916–2012) was a prominent New York City philanthropist and socialite known for her involvement in high-profile charitable organizations and the international arts scene. She was deeply connected to the French-American community, serving as Chairman of the Advisory Board for NYU’s La Maison Française and receiving the French Legion of Honor for her contributions to cultural exchange. Marriages: She was married three times. Her first husband, Charles E. Miller, died in 1946. Her second husband, Theodore Weicker Jr. (whose father co-founded the pharmaceutical giant Merck), died in 1968. In 1971, she married Anastassios "Tassos" Fondaras, a Greek shipping executive associated with Stavros Niarchos.Residences: Fondaras maintained homes on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, in Paris, and a notable 18-acre estate on Further Lane in East Hampton.In 1972, the U.S. State Department recognized her with a tribute of appreciation. She was appointed chevalier of the French Legion d’Honneur in 1989 and an officer in 2002. In 2009, French President Nicolas Sarkozy named her commandeur of the Legion d’Honneur.

If any employee or agent of Milestone Auction shall pack or transport the merchandise, it is fully at the risk and responsibility and expense of the purchaser. Milestone Auctions shall not be held liable for any loss or damage that may be caused by the said agent or employee. All items not removed after the close of the sale may be shipped to the buyer at their expense or may be moved or stored by Milestone Auctions. Fees, rates, and insurance will be charged accordingly to the buyer.
• BIDDERS NOT PRESENT OR NEEDING SHIPPING - Shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice and are NON-REFUNDABLE. Shipping will be based on actual costs via FedEx, FedEx Freight or USPS (best way). Handling and insurance will vary in cost depending on each invoice. All packages will be shipped with insurance. Items will ship seven to fourteen (7-14) business days after payment is received.
