Large Lithograph, "Woman Offering Life," by Benton Spruance. This is a large lithograph depicting a stylized female figure holding a large bundle of wheat or grass against contrasting backgrounds. Initialed "BS" in plate and signed in pencil by the artist Benton Spruance (American, 1904-1967). Notated in pencil "ed. 30," with text reading "Woman Offering Life" in the bottom margins. In a giltwood frame.

Dimensions are 37 in h x 29 in w x 1.25 in d. Condition is good with wear along frame edges. Please call or email for a detailed condition report. Benton Spruance (1904–1967) was an influential American artist and educator widely considered a pioneer of color lithography. Based in Philadelphia, he chaired the fine arts departments at Beaver College and the Philadelphia College of Art while amassing prestigious honors, including two Guggenheim Fellowships. His prolific career saw an evolution from bold, social-realist scenes of urban life to complex, metaphysical and mythological themes. His work is held in institutions including Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C., The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
