Attractive Cased Pair of Thomas Cook Percussion Double Barrel Rifled "Howdah" Pistols -A) T. Cook Double Barrel Pistol Attractive Cased Pair of Thomas Cook Percussion Double Barrel Rifled "Howdah" Pistols -A) T. Cook Double Barrel Pistol This pair of c. mid-19th century pistols from Thomas Cook of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, are signed "T. Cook" on each of the locks and "T. COOK, SHEPTON MALLET" on the concave ribs which also feature small bead front sights. The barrels have three-groove rifling. There is evidence the ramrods were originally swivel mounted, and Birmingham 24 bore proof marks are found on the underside of the barrels. There is some light engraving, and the escutcheons are silver. The pommel caps have small hinged compartments. The stocks have checkered wrists. The mahogany case has green baize lining, a cap tin, "24" marked bullet mold, powder flask, oiler, multi-screwdriver, bore rod with attachments, and some lead balls.

  • Condition: A) Fine overall as restored. The pistol retains 80% of the brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, 90% of the case colors, and 40% of the blue and has dark aged patina on the silver escutcheons, minor oxidation, and light overall wear. The stock has crisp checkering, minor dings and scratches, and a few repaired cracks. Mechanically functions. The re-lined case and accessories are very good with mild age and storage related wear. B) Fine overall as restored. The pistol retains 70% of the brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, 80% of the case colors, and 40% of the blue and has dark aged patina on the silver escutcheons, minor oxidation, and light overall wear. The stock has crisp checkering, minor dings and scratches, and some repaired chips and cracks. Mechanically functions.
