Highly Desirable Documented New York Police Department Marked and Shipped Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1913, this is a very scarce documented example of a New York Police Department (P.D.N.Y.) marked and shipped Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless pistol that has remained in exceptional condition for over one hundred years. According to "The Colt Pocket Hammerless Automatic Pistols" by Brunner, only 821 of these pistols were purchased by the P.D.N.Y., with many having not survived and many more having survived showing the signs of extensive use, leaving a scarce few in comparatively exceptionally fine condition like this one. The included factory letter lists the pistol in .380 caliber, barrel length not listed, blue finish, grips not listed, and factory rolled with "P.D.N.Y. No. 515" when shipped to the City of New York Police Headquarters on 14 November 1913 as part of a 115 gun shipment of this type. The right side of the frame has the "P.D.N.Y. No. 515" marking that was rolled at the Colt factory. The left side of the slide has the two-line, two-block patent dates and address, with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, and the two-line caliber marking on the right. The left side of the frame has the serial number. It is fitted with a blade front sight, rounded top notch rear sight, and a pair of checkered hard rubber grips.

Manufacturer: Colt

Model: 1908

BBL: 3 3/4 inch round

Gauge: 380 ACP

  • Condition: Very fine as a police issued and carried sidearm, retaining 80% of the original blue finish with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina in the form of mild holster wear, typical of a police sidearm. The grips are fine, with a minor flat spot on the left panel, some scattered minor handling marks, and otherwise well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. A highly desirable New York Police Department Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless pistol!
