ANTIQUARIAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR / EARLY FEDERAL VIRGINIA GOVERNMENT VOLUMES, LOT OF TWO, each Journal of the Senate of the Commonwealth of Virginia; (1) Begun and held in the City of Williamsburg, On Monday, the 5th day of October, in the Year of our Lord 1778 [and 1779] and (2) Begun and held in the City of Richmond, On Monday, the 17th day of October, in the Year of Our Lord Christ, 1785 [ - 1790]. Three and six annual volumes bound together, the latter with both folding tables present. Richmond: Thomas W. White, 1827 and 1828. Original marbled boards and leather bindings.
Catalogue Note: These editions were crucial early reprints, as the original manuscripts from the formative years of Virginia's government were already considered extremely rare or lost. Sabin notes that there are no known copies of the original 1785-1790 editions (Sabin 100168-100180).

  • Provenance:

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA.

  • Condition:

    Good to very good condition; both interiors are tight and primarily clean, with some minor toning and dampstaining, (1) has later owner's bookplates and embossed seal on the title page. One folding table is lacking its lower-left panel, not affecting the text. The binding of (1) has hinge and spine cracking, (2) has two dents at the top edge of the front board, both have some soiling and wear.
