A Mexican Aggregate Period sarape
Late 19th century
Woven with wool weft on a cotton warp, with multicolored vertical serrated columns and a concentric-style diamond to center, with multicolored striped banding and and blanket stitch to ends

  • Provenance: Other notes:
Aggregate sarapes represent a distinctive late nineteenth-century weaving style, generally dating from approximately 1875 to 1900. Produced after the Maximilian and Bandera periods, these textiles are characterized by densely repeated geometric motifs that create an all-over patterned field.
  • Dimensions: 82.5" H x 56" approximately
  • Condition: Overall good condition with dust accumulation and wear commensurate with age and use. Very slight fading to Side A. A few scattered minor spots and faint stains, with light soiling to cream ends. Each side with some small patches of darker encrusted surface soiling. Multiple scattered small areas of thinning to weave and small holes. One selvage side with V-shaped loss to edge, 1.75" x 0.75".

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
