"Sailboat".

Signed and dated "Blanche Lazzell 1931" and titled in pencil lower margin. Artist's name, titled and dated "Morgantown, W. VA April 22, 1931" in pencil verso. Inscribed in pen in the artist's hand verso "299 from all blocks" over "3 from this block" and with "3/299" at the corners. Several additional pencil inscriptions, including handling and matting instructions, verso.

  • Provenance:
    Blanche Lazzell's journal ledger, p. 77, shows this originally sold to Lillie Hagans for either $20 or $30. Lillie Hagans was the daughter of John Marshall Hagans, a prominent 19th Century politician, lawyer and judge from Morgantown, West Virginia.

  • Dimensions: White-line color woodcut, 12.25" x 14.25" sight. Framed 17" x 18".
  • Condition: Evenly and lightly toned, colors strong and crisp in image. Small blemish to paper at lower left margin. Sheet size 14.5" x 16.25". Slight discoloration at margins, covered by mat. Remnants of tape at top and lower center margins. Remnants of old paper backing reads "Baker's Paint Co..... Morgantown, W. Va". affixed verso.
