This presentation features a pair of historical handmade dolls presented as the property of Rebecca Parker, an enslaved woman in Franklin, Virginia, around 1853. The assembly is professionally mounted in a deep shadow box. The first item is a cloth doll featuring a molded head with hand-painted facial details. It is dressed in period-appropriate attire consisting of a floral print calico dress, a matching turban or head wrap, a red fabric waist sash, and patterned fabric booties. The construction features a brown cloth body. The second item is a diminutive corn husk doll, handcrafted from natural fibers tied with string to define the torso and skirt, with a head portion painted black. Both items are set against a neutral linen-textured backing within a mahogany-finished wood shadow box frame. The frame is equipped with TruGuard UV protection conservation glass. The reverse of the frame bears a label from Jessie's Art Gallery & Custom Framing of Frankfort, Kentucky. A brass plaque mounted inside the shadow box identifies the items as the property of Rebecca Parker. Shadow Box: 17 inches (H) x 12.25 inches (W) x 4.75 inches (D) Large Doll: 11 inches (H) Small Doll: 3.5 inches (H).
