Exceptional World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol Manufactured in 1917, this pistol was shipped to Europe for issue in World War I by the American Expeditionary Force (A.E.F.). This pistol's serial number falls within a shipment of 4,036 Model 1911 pistols listed on p. 519 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920" by Meadows as shipped to the ordnance depot at Greenville Piers, Jersey City, New Jersey, for the A.E.F. on 21 January 1918, nearly 11 months prior to the end of the war. The left of the slide is marked with the two-line, two-block patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, while the right has the standard "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" marking. The left of the frame has the U.S. property marking and "GHS" inspection mark, and the serial number is on the right. The full blued barrel is marked "P/H" on the chamber hood and "Y" on the bottom. It is fitted with blade and notch sights, wide checkered hammer, long smooth trigger, short grip safety, diamond pattern checkered grips, and an unmarked two-tone magazine.

  • Condition: Exceptionally fine, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish with a patch of grey patina on the mainspring housing, some light dings on the right of the frame around the slide stop pin, a few scattered light scratches, and some extremely light edge wear. The grips are excellent with a few light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
